What is Lake Mead?

As the largest reservoir in the United States, Lake Mead is definitely worth visiting on your Las Vegas vacation. The lake is formed by the Hoover Dam and sits on the Colorado River about a 40-minute drive from the Las Vegas strip. It supplies water to residents in Nevada, Arizona, and California. The Lake Mead National Recreation Area was established in 1964 and offers a variety of activities to visitors year-round.

If you don’t have a lot of time to spend in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, you can take a scenic drive and observe the mountains, desert basins, and canyons.

If you don’t have a car to drive out to Lake Mead and aren’t interested in renting one, we can pick you up right from your Las Vegas strip hotel and take you on a scenic ATV tour of Lake Mead and the surrounding areas. This is one of the most unique and fun ways to explore Lake Mead because you’ll be riding through the recreation area on an ATV and be able to see the beautiful scenery of Lake Mead and the Colorado River. Want to go for a swim? You can jump into the Colorado River at the halfway point of our tour. Most people don’t get a tour guide for their trip to Lake Mead, but we’ll provide you with the facts of the lake and the river.
